چکیده

Analyses of marine and terrestrial palynomorphs Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Site 645 in Baffin Bay led us to define a new biostratigraphical scheme covering the late Miocene Pleistocene based on dinocyst acritarch assemblages. Four biozones were defined. The first one, from 438.6 m below sea floor (mbsf) 388 mbsf, can be assigned early Pliocene age (>4.5 Ma), common occurrence Cristadinium diminutivum Selenopemphix brevispinosa. Biozone 2, spanning an erosional unconformity recovery hiatus, is marked by highest occurrences (HOs) Veriplicidium franklinii diminutivum, which suggest >3.6 Ma (∼4.5 ∼3.6 Ma). 3, above hiatus up 220.94 corresponds or Bitectatodinium readwaldii, Cymatiosphaera? icenorum, Lavradosphaera canalis. Finally, between 266.4 120.56 4, HO Filisphaera filifera, microornata, Habibacysta tectata, has (>1.4 Our biostratigraphy implies that horizon b1 seismic stratigraphy at ODP 645, suggests very thick sequence along Island slope. Dinocyst assemblages our records indicate (or) characterized relatively warm coastal surface waters boreal forest forested tundra vegetation over adjacent lands. In contrast, cold waters, while pollen data reduced cover

Ocean Drilling Program Leg 135 Preliminary Report

Leg 135 of the Ocean Drilling Program drilled and cored eight sites across the Lau Basin and adjacent Tonga Ridge to study the geological evolution of a backarc basin and adjacent oceanic arc and forearc. Six sites (Sites 834, 835, 836, 837, 838, and 839) were drilled within the Lau Basin, each within smaller and narrower (<10 km) north-south fault basins and collectively representing a broad e...

24. Late Paleogene and Early Neogene Foraminifers of Deep Sea Drilling Project Site 270, Ross Sea, Antarctica

Foraminifers from the upper Oligocene, lower Miocene, and Pleistocene at Site 270 in the southern Ross Sea, Antarctica, are discussed and illustrated. The total fauna comprises 74 genera and 163 species. A small number of taxa are recycled from Cretaceous and older Paleogene sediments. Four assemblage zones are proposed, the age of informal lithologic units discussed, and potentially important ...

Thirty thousand years of vegetation development and climate change in Angola (Ocean Drilling Program Site 1078)

ODP Site 1078 situated under the coast of Angola provides the first record of the vegetation history for Angola. The upper 11 m of the core covers the past 30 thousand years, which has been analysed palynologically in decadal to centennial resolution. Alkenone sea surface temperature estimates were analysed in centennial resolution. We studied sea surface temperatures and vegetation development...

Coupled Sea Ice–Ocean-State Estimation in the Labrador Sea and Baffin Bay

Sea ice variability in the Labrador Sea is of climatic interest because of its relationship to deep convection, mode-water formation, and the North Atlantic atmospheric circulation. Historically, quantifying the relationship between sea ice and ocean variability has been difficult because of in situ observation paucity and technical challenges associated with synthesizing observations with nume...

Ocean Drilling Program Leg 184 Preliminary Report South China Sea

The Asian monsoon system is a major component of both regional and global climate. Evolution of monsoonal climates in southern Asia is linked to the growth of the HimalayanTibetan orogen, the opening and closing of marginal seas, and changes in global climate. The location of the South China Sea (SCS) between East Asia and the “maritime continent” is ideal to record the paleoceanographic respon...
